L4D

You’re one of the four survivors of post-apocalyptic earth. Unfortunately, the rest of civilization has been infected by some zombifying virus, and they’re all out to get you.

Or, you could also be one of the virus-ridden, salivating, flesh-eating zombies hungry for human blood. Whichever way you wish to play it, Left 4 Dead is your best reliving your favourite zombie Hollywood fantasies. There are four different game modes you can opt for, each with five different levels. Get three other zombie-hating friends together and save the world from this apocalyptic pandemic. You can choose to play solo hero, and simply rely on AI for buddies. L4D also boasts of a multiplayer mode, which allows up to eight people to play cops and robbers, only you’re either a dead flesh-chomping antagonist, or you’re alive but maybe not for long. The unique aspect in this game is the use of an AI called The Director, this is actually some all-knowing entity that can control the game’s pacing and monster spawns. It works for a higher replay value and more dynamic games. Even if you’ve played a certain level countless of times, the location and position of the infected varies so much, it feels like a different game each time. There is no letting your guard down in this game, each area is a possible battlefield with zombies as aggressive and cunning as these.

Left 4 Dead shines best when you play with a teammate that’s an adept shooter gamer. Your AI comrades are dependable, able to shoot down zombies in the way and even lend a cure if you’re injured. Unfortunately, you can’t communicate your strategies to them, being the pre-programmed computer pilots that they are. So if you decide to crouch and stealth, chances are they might just gun on and give you away.

As a survival horror game, what makes this successful in this arena is its realism, graphics, and of course the suspense and tension you experience as a player. It can even be considered a great Hollywood zombie movie – only you play a part, and the how the story develops is entirely up to you. What’s more, it’s hailed as one of the best co-op and multiplayer shooters available.

Of course, what’s a shooter without its share of kick-ass weapons? You start the game with a pistol with unlimited ammunition. Eventually, you can dual wield pistols. Or op for bigger bangs like an Uzi submachine gun, pump-action gun, assault rifles, hunting rifles, and more. What to create even bigger booms? Choose from an array of grenades and bombs. You can even use things around you for the biggest boom you can manage, by shooting up gasoline cans and oxygen tanks.

Of course this game is not without its criticisms – but its criticism stems from the fact that gamers just want more L4D. There are only four multiplayer maps, very scarce if you want more zombie action. Also, if you play the great campaign, it’s very lonely to do so alone. Left 4 Dead is best when you have buddies to play with. Overall, L4D is still one of the best and most exciting zombie shooter out there. It’s immersive, suspenseful, and best of all, a whole lot of shooter fun. If you need storage space, look at ssd performance advice.
