Yes we love our big virtual guns, nothing like that ultimate weapon of mass destruction to blow off zombies and aliens to kingdom come. Of all the FPS-es in all the towns in all the worlds, there are quite a few arsenals that stood out and wound its way into every shooter gamers’ nostalgic dreams. If ranking the top FPS weapons was attempted, it will simply set off an endless barrage of debate as to which weapon or game really deserve the number one slot. So in no particular order, here are some of the top most memorable weapons that make even the most hardcore shooters sigh in reverie.

Morph-o-Ray
From the dynamic duo Ratchet and Clank, comes one of the most amusing shooter weapons we’ve gotten our hands on. Sure they’ve taken us on some radical adventures jumping long distances, racing on hoverboards, and battling it out in cyberspace. The best bit about them is they gave us the power to turn our enemies into feathery cluckaroos. There was even the Gold Morph-o-Ray, who could turn enemies into even bigger chickens.

Voodoo Doll
Blood and Blood 2 brought us a whole new way of defeating enemies – by manipulating them. This bloody shooter game was not only full of big bad cannons and bombs, it had the dark mysticism that black magic brought via the voodoo doll. This powerful little rag actually ignores armor and has unlimited range. By simply pointing it at the enemy, the player is in control on the type of pain he can afflict. It’s almost like going on god mode in this game.

Spread Gun
How many times have we yelped in delight at the sight of that flying S in the Amazonian jungles in Contra? The Spread Gun is the much coveted weapon in this classic shooter adventure. It fires bullets in a fan-like manner, hitting pretty much everyone in your path. It’s no-sweat fragging for you. With the spread gun, the challenge actually lies in making sure you don’t pick up any other weapon types.

Shrink Ray
Duke Nukem 3D nukes them in style. This gun doesn’t give a loud kaboom, nor does it display an impressive amount of firepower. What it does is it gives you the bullying power over your enemies. Simply blast off your opponent with this ray, and you can give your maniacal laugh as they scurry about like a little mouse. Tired of throwing back your head and laughing? Then crush the little rascals with your heel. FPS has never been this fun.

BFG 9000
Yes, it’s effing big. Doom gives us one of the best FPS weapons in history, not only for the sheer size of it and the amount of damage it deals, but also for the way it changed shoot-em-up action. Not only do you have the glory of annihilating everything in your path with a big blast, the BFG 9000 firepower utilizes some sort of formula. Gaming has taken on strategy, with players learning to calculate and re-calibrate. It made shooter games more complex and challenging, as opposed to button mashing methods.
